Watergate journalist Bob Woodward on Monday recalled a remark from former President Donald Trump that left him “surprised like I was a reporter”.
Throughout Monday’s broadcast of “CNN Tonight,” Woodward shared audio clips of Trump talking to him — in interviews he recorded for his now-released 2020 guide “Rage.” titled “The Trump Tapes” – what he instructed his younger son Barron Trump throughout the early levels of the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump, talking to Woodward on March 19, 2020, stated Barron (then 13 years previous) requested him what was occurring and he replied:
“I stated, it got here from China, Barron. Pure and easy. It comes from China. And it must be stopped. Actually, Barron, they need to have let it know that it was an issue two months earlier… the world would not have an issue. We might have stopped it simply.”
“CNN Tonight” host Jake Tapper admitted that the blame lies with the Chinese language authorities for masking up the preliminary unfold of COVID-19. However he reminds viewers of how Trump himself has really been warned about its potential risks – and selected to do nothing about it.
On the time of recording that specific interview with Trump, Woodward stated he was unaware of the warning the then president had obtained from his personal nationwide safety advisers concerning the virus.
When Woodward realized of the warning, he stated he listened to the tape once more and concluded: “My God, Trump is arresting not solely me however his son and he is giving start to, ‘Oh, this factor. This might have been mounted, the Chinese language might have finished it. one thing about it. ‘ Donald Trump might have finished one thing by being sincere and warning the general public that he as president has a constitutional and ethical accountability to do.”
